Marquee Artisan Wines

RIESLING – Yakima Valley AVA

Available Vintages: 2012

BLEND/COLOR: 90% Riesling, 10% Chenin Blanc
PALATE/BOUQUET: Creamy scents of clover and honey give our Riesling
a subtle richness that helps to balance the
sweetness of this wine. On the palate sweet honey and candied pineapple flavors are forward and lush, while accents of orange marmalade and a touch of spice to give some complexity to the sweet and almost sugary core. A great after-dinner sipper.

Since 1946, Bodegas La PurÍsima has selected and transformed the fruit of the best vines to create the Great Wines of Yecla, with a commitment to quality, innovation and tradition in winemaking, recognized by numerous international awards and the trust of thousands of customers around the world.

Placed on the highest vineyards windswept, dry and clean under the D.O. Yecla – able to grow organic grapes without having to treat for mildew, using pheromone traps to trap the moths. The vines are very old in plots with very sandy soils, reducing the chance of root born parasites. These vines have 9 sq meters per foot which help avoid contamination for adjacent vines.

No other group of wines have been given higher marks (at lower prices) from Wine Spectator Magazine than the Marquee® Classic Series, which is a collection of Australian wines that consumers can trust to be drinkable and approachable at value prices. Every vintage is a true “Best Buy” from 87 to 90 Points with outstanding quality!

To call our co-founder, Mark O’Connell, a wine lover would be to make a gross understatement. Mark is a collector, an advocate and even a Burgundy estate owner. Ten years ago he was doing quite a bit of business, unrelated to wine, with he crossed paths with another wine enthusiast, Keith Brien. Keith has been a winemaker for over thirty-five years.

Keith and Mark strongly agreed on one point, wine had become too intimidating. Consumers had to weed through too many labels and marketing gimmicks to find quality juice. Keith left Cleveland Estate in 2003 (after twenty-five of those years) to pursue his dream and make wine for his own label which would be sold internationally and for the American market under the Marquee label.

Marquee® has grown substantially in the past ten years. Labels have come and gone but one thing remains consistent, the quality of the wine. Keith and Mark believe that there is no substitute for well made, artisanal wine.

REGION NOTES: The 2010 was the break in a 15 year drought bringing good rains during winter and the first of a cycle of cooler summers to Victoria in relief to the lethal bush fires of the previous year. This Shiraz fruit was grown in a small vineyard near Mia Mia in the famous Heathcote region and produced by Silver Wings Wines in a diversion of style from the bolder McLaren Vale wines previously imported under the U.S. ‘Marquee’ label. Showing greater elegance and restraint it was matured in small French oak barrels for 18 months prior to bottling in new low carbon emission, light weight bottles, we seal with a technology leading screw cap to ensure the full flavour and character of the wine is preserved for the consumer, free of taint. It is a high quality, rich and elegant wine offering well balanced dark Cherry and Blackberry fruit flavours, oak & soil complexities with a balanced, long tannin finish.
