Castello Di Gabiano

“Four lions, one for strength, one for courage, one for honor, and one for loyalty.” Directly from the heart of Italy we offer three selections, a white, red wine and a light red. All wines produced are of a DOC+ status and Gabiano itself covers one of the oldest and smallest DOC’s in all of Italy. The estate itself covers over 260 Hectares of which 20 Hectares are currently planted as vineyards. All of the Quattro Leoni wines are hand-picked, estate-grown wines from the Gabiano vineyards.

    BLEND/COLOR: 100% Barbera, Red, Magenta with a true Burgundy hue.

    PALATE/BOUQUET: Rich dark cherry flavors, a touch of rhubarb, toffee notes, and a refined raspberry character. Lots of fruit here, but it has a very smooth, integrated finish. An underlying floral note of roses with coffee, and a touch of gaminess or leather. Pair with osso bucco, lasagna, and grilled pork chops.

    REGION NOTES: Barbera D’Asti is an Italian red wine made from the Barbera grape variety. It is produced in the hilly areas of the provinces of Asti and Alexandria, Barbera D’Asti was accredited with DOC status in 1970. The Barbera grape is believed to have originated in the hills of Monferrato in central Piedmont, Italy and is known and recorded in history since the thirteenth century. As seen on LOT18.com.




    QUATTRO LEONI GRIGNOLINIO - (Castello Di Gabiano - Piedmont – DOC, Italy)

    BLEND/ COLOR: 100% Grignolinio, Red/ Light burgundy hue with just a touch of copper notes.

    PALATE/BOUQUET: Balanced between acids and smooth tannins with notes of strawberry, watermelon and light raspberry characters. Exhibits a bit of crushed limestone to go along with the light berry flavors and some herbaceous floral aromas. Pair with fresh salad with blue cheese crumbles, a platter of fresh prosciutto & melon or on its own as an light aperitif for red wine lovers.

    REGION NOTES: Grignolinio is light Italian red wine made from the grape type of the same name. The Grignolinio grape is believed to have originated in the hills of Monferrato in central Piedmont, Italy and its name from the word “grignole” which means many pips or seeds in the Piedmontese dialect of the Asti region. Winemaker Mario Ronco uses a “slow pressing” technique to keep the tannins in balance due to the abundance of seeds in the grapes. This delicate red wine is made to be consumed young with a slight chill or coolness.







    QUATTRO LEONI MONFERRATO BIANCO - (Castello Di Gabiano - Piedmont – DOC, Italy)

    BLEND / COLOR: 60% Sauvignon Blanc, 30% Chardonnay & 10% Cortese, White / golden hue with straw gold coloration.

    PALATE/BOUQUET: Stone fruits, pears, bright lemon, with a bit of grassiness and peaches. A touch of talc/chalk, and some floral lilac notes. Pair with shellfish, fresh salads with light dressings, and lemon herb chicken.

    REGION NOTES: Monferrato is an Italian wine DOC created in 1984 that is located within the provinces of Alexandria and Asti. Known as a hilly region east of Turin in Piedmont; the Monferrato Bianco name can only be given to wines made up of a majority of either Chardonnay or Sauvignon Blanc.
