Wines & Winemakers by Saven is made up of a conglomerate of winemakers that specialize in certain regions of Portugal. Head wine maker, Anselmo Mendes, specializes in whites from the northeastern region of Portugal called Vinho Verde.     REGION NOTES: The most utmost of care is taken in both the vineyard and the winery. All grapes are 100% hand-harvested to ensure quality of fruit, followed by gentle pneumatic pressing and extended maceration at controlled temperatures. The high quality of the grapes, combined with the skill of winemaker, Anselmo Mendes (one of Portugal´s top oenologists), creates wine of true character, passion, purity and integrity.

    BLEND / COLOR: Blend of 23 Varieties with approximately 60% Touriga Franca, Red / Deep Garnet

    PALATE/BOUQUET: Full bodied and concentrated with fresh, ripe round tannins. Black currant, blackberries, blueberries with a dry dusty earth note. Very aromatic blueberries and blackberries. Pair with roasted meats and strong cheeses.

    REGION NOTES: Vinas Velhas (100%) Old Vine Field Blend of 23 Varieties with approximately 60% Touriga Franca. 50% vinified in stainless steel vats with temperature control at 22 Celsius & 50% Vinified in “pisa a pe em lagar” (traditional foot trodden in old granite between 21 and 24 degrees. Much of the best grape production in Portugal has gone into their fortified wines; times have changed and now these reds are on fire and use noble old vines and unique grape types to create outstanding wines. The Douro can make wines worthy of aging and this is one. Decant while young and drink or cellar up to 2022.
